FAQ

Why is B&B Buena Idea such a good base for a cycling holiday in the Costa Blanca?

Because you don't have to drive to the cycling — you start in it.

Buena Idea is located in the heart of the Jalón Valley, just around 70 metres from the CV-750 and approximately 700 metres from the village of Xaló. From the B&B, you can start your ride directly into the valley and towards many of the area's well-known climbs and routes, including Coll de Rates, Vall d'Ebo and Bernia.

This means less time in the car, less need to navigate busy coastal roads and a great variety of rides directly from the doorstep.

In other words, Buena Idea isn't simply accommodation near a cycling destination — the B&B is actually inside the cycling destination.

Is B&B Buena Idea properly equipped for road cyclists and their bikes?

Yes. During the cycling season, October to May, we have six rooms available, each with individual beds and its own private bathroom. We also have secure indoor bicycle storage, so your bike can stay safely inside rather than outside or in your room.

There is space to clean your bike and we can help with local cycling contacts, including bike rental and repair services. Bikes can also be delivered to and collected from the B&B through local providers.

We keep things practical and uncomplicated: you have what you need for a good day on the bike, without trying to turn Buena Idea into a specialist cycling hotel.

What kind of cycling can I do from Buena Idea?

The Jalón Valley is particularly well suited to road cycling, with a great variety of quiet roads, climbs and longer routes. Well-known challenges include Coll de Rates, Vall d'Ebo and Bernia, but there are many other routes to explore.

The area works well for experienced amateurs and stronger riders, but also for recreational cyclists. You don't need to be a professional or a particularly strong climber to enjoy cycling here.

One of the advantages is the variety: you can ride a different route every day, while always returning to the same relaxed base in the valley.

What makes Buena Idea different from staying at a larger cycling hotel or coastal resort?

Buena Idea is deliberately small-scale, informal and unpretentious. We are not a cycling resort and don't pretend to be one. We are a comfortable, practical place to stay in an environment that happens to be exceptionally good for cycling.

During the cycling season we have six rooms, with individual beds and private bathrooms, plus indoor bike storage. We are surrounded by the countryside and vineyards, while Xaló is only around 700 metres away, with restaurants and everyday amenities close by.

So you get the peace and space of the valley, but you don't feel isolated. After a day of cycling, you can simply come back, relax and enjoy the surroundings.

What is the best time of year to stay at Buena Idea for cycling?

For cycling, we consider October to May the best period.

The main reason is the climate. The summer months can be very hot inland, particularly in the afternoon, whereas from autumn through spring temperatures are generally much more comfortable for longer rides and climbing.

These months also bring a real cycling atmosphere to the Jalón Valley. The roads are full of cyclists and the area attracts many international amateur riders as well as professional teams using the Costa Blanca for training. At the same time, it is outside the traditional summer beach season.

For us, this makes October to May a particularly good combination: excellent cycling conditions, a lively cycling community and the opportunity to experience the valley without the heat and crowds of the summer.

Do you have opening and closing times?

Do you mean in general, i.e. throughout the year? Apart from the period from 23 December to 2 January, we are pretty much open all year round. If we decide to close for a week or so, we simply check which week has no bookings yet and close all booking channels accordingly. If you meant check-in times, these are from 15:00 to 21:00.
